ABOUT ABOUT

The Upper School Drama Club is proud to open its 2022-23 season with D.W. Gregory’s Radium Girls on November 4, 5, 11, and 12 at 7:00 pm in the Kerr Center for the Arts.

The show opened at the Playwrights’ Theatre in New Jersey for the 1999-2000 season and has since been produced over 800 times by high school, college, amateur, and professional theatre companies across the world. Radium Girls tells the haunting true story of the watch dial painters of the U.S. Radium Corporation in Orange, NJ, during World War I and the 1920s. Heralded a modern medical miracle, radium was used in everything from medication to mascara. Through their consistent exposure to radium, these young women began developing severe health issues, most becoming fatal. Radium Girls examines the commercialization of science and the twin American obsessions of health and wealth.

As they are engaged but this play's examination of the American obsession with both health and wealth, audiences are encouraged also to meditate on the play's message that nothing we do is hidden from God and all that is done in the dark will come into the light, whether it be now or in the future. (Luke 12: 2-3).
